So... Laura and I went to the Big Apple Comic-Con and it was EPIC.
It is the most fun I have had at a Con in years. so I think I will do my best to record it here so I remember it well.
Now where to begin. I guess the costumes. Laura is all about superhero costumes and this year for Halloween she's being Robin. So, because it just seemed right with Adam West as a guest there that we dress appropriately. So I wore Laura's Batgirl dress.
As a pair we were quite unbelievable.
We woke up at 6:30am, tried to catch the 7:30 train, missed it and got on the 8am one. We got into the city around 9:30 and walked the 2 miles from Penn Station to Pier 94. by the time we got there we were already sore. A lady called Laura disgusting on the way there it was sort of lulzy.
So we get there and we go to check in and since it was right after 10am so there was no line. There was no Coat Check, and I think that's one of the only complaints about the convention that I have at all.
As we first walk in we find a tiny Batgirl and grab a picture with her. I think her parents were amused that we were dressed similar.
So we wander the convention and we walk by the Delorian and the Batmobile from 1966. OH MY GOD were we excited. As we wandered further we heard Star Wars music playing and found a full size R2-D2 that beeped and whistled.
My StalkerCam, Marie, and I wandered around until we found William Shatner and Brent Spiner. I wasn't willing to pay for autographs so too bad about that, but still... HOW COOL IS THAT. We also found Nichelle Nichols elsewhere.
We were stopped for pictures constantly. Often to pose with other people in costume, mostly SuperHeroes. Then we grabbed a piece of floor and settled in to eat some breakfast pastries. While we had been walking earlier a guy asked us if we were willing to pose for pictures where he was doing photos in a back corner. So we did and signed Model Release forms and everything. The pictures were a lot of fun to do.
Soon after we were grabbed by UFrag TV to do an interview as congoers. We were interviewed and that was cool.
I so did not insult Shatner. I meant what I said, mostly.
After we started wandering again we heard a guy working for the Con say he had Adam West's pillows.... so we went running after him. and Found Adam West.
Standing in front of Adam West dressed like we were... he did a double take. I don't think he ever expected to see a Batman and Robin set like us.
So at Hollywood Heroes I scolded them for having Red Shirt and Tiberius Cologne but not having the Pon Farr perfume. The guy asked me if I'd have bought it if it was there. If it smelled nice I would have. The internet makes it sound pretty good. Red shirt is not a scent I like but Tiberius smelled good.
A little after 1pm we went to go find the Toxic Avengers cast for Laura. They signed her playbill and I signed up for a raffle to see the show. The cast didn't want my nerds but I did offer to share them!
Then we wandered by Archaia publishing where there was a very gorgeous man who talked to us about the books there. The books were cute actually, but expensive. As we wandered away we were grabbed for another interview with The Werd Podcast. I think they liked us because we were looking pretty hot.
Bought myself some Star Trek nonsense. YAY deals! Also wandered by Brent Spiner again.
We wandered to find a place to sit down and we ran across an X-men group. The IceMan was pretty epic. It takes balls to walk around in biker shorts and blue body paint and nothing else. Soon after we grabbed a snack and started meeting interesting people. We met Jason, dressed as Nightwing. Soon after we met Rich aka Superman.
While hunting for comics we met Mark McKenna who draw for DC, HOW COOL IS THAT?!?!
Then we went over to the other pier for the costume contest. We didn't participate since our clothes were store bought and that seemed unfair.
But man it was wild. So many good costumes like Zombie Hulk and She-Hulk and Blade who had the quote of the day. "There can only be one Daywalker. Edward Cullen must Die." He wins so much for that.
As the judging went on IceMan offered to entertain. Deathstroke could beatbox so they got up there and entertained for awhile.
Then we chatted with Jason and Rich and they were friendly. We also met Mike, the con volunteer, who said he could get us into the afterparty. $20 ticket in for free? well then. Laura made me talk to him because I'm nicer but hey, we got in. WOO!
And that begins the awesome part of the day.
We went back to the main pier afterwards to see if there was anything else worth seeing. Nichelle Nichols talked to me as she was leaving. :3
Wandering around I found Aaron, who used to date a friend of mine, so that was cool. His friend made Laura uncomfortable though... Luckily another photographer came by! He asked us to pose since he wants to do a book on cosplay. So Laura was saved and we went to pose again in a different photo setup in the opposite corner of the con.
I went back to chat with Aaron and Laura wandered off. After a few minutes she came RUNNING and dragged me off, apparently the Batmobile people offered to let us pose on the car. CAN YOU BELIEVE IT?
This lead to Laura and I staring at Strippers near the Batmobile for a bit, then posing like pinup girls on it.
Then I got to drive it. ^_________^
And the con was over, but the night had just begun.
We got in line for the con because there were door prizes. Free T-shirts for the first 100 people in line and goodie bags. I got an Obi-won bust and some DVDs and things. Ended up getting a tanktop (thanks to Aaron since I couldn't find my free shirt voucher). Then we watched Start Trekkin the improv group and laughed heartily at their Ice Snakes and almost gay-lovin' they were great.
Afterwards we made friends with them. They were all really friendly. I wish we lived closer so we could have stayed for their second show at 11, but we were exhausted and had to catch a train.
Anyway, while standing there, the man who ran the con came up to us and handed us bags that were meant for a costume contest. We were some of the only people in costume there and I got a Black and White Batman bust. Laura got a Corpse Bride Statue. Because we're just that awesome.
Then a nice young blond man came in and asked about the party. When we told him once you're in you don't really need a ticket he was pretty friendly. He said he was "financially well-endowed" and offered to buy us drinks (His name may have been Steeve, Laura knows). When Frank (one of the improv troop members) and I accepted his offer and were friendly he said "Yay Canada!" so Frank asked him where he was from.... he looked at him funny and said "Canada" in what I thought was a really amusing tone of voice.
When Laura went up with him he told her not to worry "I'm not going to try and bang you after I buy you a drink, I'm gay" or something like that. FUNTIMES.
Then a guy showed up and wanted pictures with everyone. So the Trekkin cast, Laura, and I got pulled into pictures again. Afterwards Laura was accosted by someone who wanted a picture on her boobs. So without warning he almost put his head on them for a picture.
Adrianne Curry, from ANTM, told Laura she couldn't believe he just did that and then started talking to us. She apparently thought we were sort of cool.
Laura got a kiss Goodbye from on the the Trekkin guys and Mike and a Ghostbuster, who was so sweet and whose name I wish I could remember, talked to us for a bit to say goodbye.
Soon after we had to leave and I limped the 2 miles back to the train station with Laura through the theater district (safer that way).
We got Hot Dogs to eat before the train and got on the midnight train home. 1:15 had us back at Hamilton and then we wandered into Qwik Check still in costume to get snacks. Then we were back at Janella's where we passed out and slept late Saturday.
All in all and EXCELLENT DAY.
My recap does not really compare to how amazing it was.
